Ensuring a Clear View

Visibility

You can’t make safe decisions if you can’t see clearly.

Keep all windows, mirrors, and lights clean and free of smears.

Wipers and Washers

  • Make sure wiper blades are in good condition.

  • Keep the washer bottle full and use screen-wash additives:

    • To prevent freezing in winter

    • To remove insects and dirt in summer

Preventing Misting

  • Keep a dry cloth in the car to clear interior glass.

  • Use demisters and heated windows early to prevent fogging.

  • Open windows briefly to improve airflow.

  • Air conditioning can also help to clear mist.

For electric vehicles, use your remote app to pre-heat or demist the car while it’s still charging — this helps preserve range.

In Icy Conditions

  • Cover your windscreen overnight if frost is expected.

  • Use de-icer or a scraper to clear glass before setting off.

  • Never pour boiling water on frozen glass — it may crack.

  • Use cold or lukewarm water if necessary.

  • Take care not to damage frozen wiper blades.

Heating systems, demisters, and wipers all reduce the range of electric vehicles.

In Rain

  • Use dipped headlights in rain, drizzle, or mist so you’re visible.

  • Operate wipers and headlights manually if they don’t activate automatically.

  • Keep washer bottles topped up with screen wash to prevent smears.

  • Drive slower — some wipers can’t cope with heavy rain.

  • Clean your windows and lights regularly.

Never drive if you can’t see clearly all around.
