# Parking at Night

## General Rules

Cars, light goods vehicles (up to 2,500 kg laden weight), invalid carriages, and motorcycles may park *without lights* on roads with a speed limit of **30 mph (48 km/h)** or less, as long as they:

- Obey all parking restrictions
- Are not parked within **10 metres (32 feet)** of a junction
- Are parked **parallel and close** to the side of the road, facing the **same direction as the traffic flow**

On roads with higher speed limits:

- **Do not** leave your vehicle without side or parking lights unless a sign clearly says you can.
- It’s safer to park **off the road entirely** if possible.
- **Never** park on the **right-hand side** of the road unless it’s a one-way street.

## Headlights

Always turn your headlights **off when stopped**, even briefly. Leaving them on while parked is an offence — the glare can dazzle other drivers and may drain your battery.
