Junctions on Hills
Downhill Junctions
-
Use the MSM/PSL routine early.
-
Control speed with gears and brakes.
-
Choose a position with a clear view before deciding to go or wait.
-
Oncoming traffic may be slow — don’t block their path.
Uphill Junctions
-
Judge your speed and position carefully.
-
If turning right, position slightly left of the centre line to let vehicles pass on your left.
-
Avoid stopping too far left, which could block following drivers.
Joining Hills
-
Turning left uphill: easier, as you don’t cross oncoming traffic.
-
Turning right uphill: more difficult — you must cross fast downhill traffic and merge safely with vehicles climbing from your left.
