Before Manoeuvring

Use Your Knowledge

Before you carry out any manoeuvre, make sure it’s legal, safe, and convenient. Use your knowledge of The Highway Code, road signs, markings, and common sense to decide.

Ask yourself:

  • Is this a safe place?

  • Is it legal to do the manoeuvre here?

  • Is it convenient for you and others?

  • Can I control my vehicle safely here?

Only when you can confidently answer “yes” to all four questions should you proceed.

Other Road Users

Avoid causing inconvenience to others. No one should have to slow down, stop, or change direction because of your manoeuvre.

If traffic is approaching, decide whether it’s safer to wait. Don’t hesitate unnecessarily, but never take risks.

When Other Vehicles Stop for You

Sometimes other drivers stop out of courtesy.

Don’t assume they’re stopping for you—always check that the road is clear in all directions before moving.

Use of the Accelerator

During any manoeuvre, use the accelerator smoothly.

Gentle control saves fuel, reduces wear, and keeps noise to a minimum.
