Adjusting Mirrors

Before Moving Off

  • Ensure all mirrors are clean and properly adjusted.

  • Sit in your normal driving position and adjust mirrors so you can see clearly with minimal head movement.

  • Include mirror checks as part of your cockpit drill.

When adjusting mirrors:

  • Hold them by the edge to avoid fingerprints — smudges can distort your view.

Interior Mirror

Adjust so you have the clearest possible view through the rear window, especially to the offside, with minimal head movement.

Exterior Mirrors

Adjust:

  • For the best view behind

  • So that only a small part of your vehicle’s side is visible

Never adjust mirrors while driving. Check their position each time you get in the car — they may have been moved.

After a car wash, make sure extended mirrors are still properly aligned.

Keep exterior mirrors clean and free from condensation or frost before setting off.

Electric Mirrors

Many vehicles now have electrically adjustable mirrors, often with built-in heating to clear frost or condensation.

Anti-Dazzle Mirrors

Most interior mirrors have an anti-dazzle setting to reduce glare from following vehicles at night.

You’ll still see the lights behind you, but with much less dazzle.

Remember to reset the mirror for daytime driving.
