Moving Off at an Angle
How to Move Off at an Angle
Use the same procedure as moving off straight ahead, but consider your angle and space.
Before moving, ask yourself:
-
At what angle will I need to pull out?
-
How far into the road will I go?
This depends on:
-
The distance from the vehicle ahead
-
The width of that vehicle
-
Oncoming traffic
Checking for Blind Spots
Check for blind spots (especially around window pillars), signal if needed, and:
-
Look over your right shoulder.
-
Release the parking brake gradually as you bring the clutch to the biting point.
-
Maintain tight clutch control and steer steadily around the obstacle.
-
Leave enough room for someone to open their door.
-
Straighten up smoothly and be ready to brake in case a pedestrian appears.
-
Check your mirrors once you’ve moved off.
