# Towing a Caravan

## Basic Requirements

Towing a caravan requires the same skills and safety precautions as towing any trailer.

You must hold a **full Category B (car) licence** before towing any trailer or caravan.

## Weight Distribution

The stability of both your caravan and towing vehicle depends on **correct weight distribution**.

- **Load heavy items low** in the caravan, ideally over the **axle(s)**.
- **Distribute lighter items**, such as bedding or clothing, evenly to maintain proper **noseweight** at the coupling.
- The **noseweight** must **not exceed the vehicle manufacturer’s recommendation**.
- You can measure this with an inexpensive **noseweight gauge**, available from caravan accessory suppliers.

> **Tip:** The heavier your load, the higher your fuel consumption.
